The LIU School of Computing and Information Technology seeks to spur such development through advancing technology.

Objectives and Goals of SCIT
The School of Computing and Information Technology is a dynamic and successful school, employing two academic staff and supported by four part-time lecturers who include both technical and professional staff.

We teach a diverse and successful portfolio of undergraduate courses and future postgraduate courses. In total, we currently teach 30 undergraduate courses and about 40 CCNA and IT Essentials professional short-courses.

The School of Computing and Information Technology, specializing in professional teacher-led subjects as well as technical teaching subjects, is among the best performing schools in the university.

We currently have both full-time and part-time students, and programs offered by the school cover a wide range of fields, including information technology and professional short-courses.

When compared to traditional computing programs, the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSc IT) at LivingStone International University offers a unique approach to technology training, especially in light of the current challenges in the information technology industry. The BSc IT program combines the key strengths of the traditional Bachelor of Information Technology with emergent aspects that are sought by graduates focusing toward professional careers in IT. Such emergent aspects include global business and new technologies for data processing and data communication.

The BSc IT program has been developed to provide students with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge which will enable them to effectively participate in solving the complex problems of the IT industry. LIU’s IT program equips students with the knowledge and skills required to contribute to the vital area of Information Technology.

The knowledge and skills gained by BSc IT graduates include web-based information systems as well as relevant applied research to develop and/or maintain appropriate and sustainable technical solutions to IT problems in a variety of fields, including: Information Assurance, Entrepreneurship, Education, Governance, Management, Engineering and Technology, etc. Therefore, our graduates have a competitive advantage to work with national and international organizations in wide-ranging fields.

A typical BSc IT program normally provides training in the application of information technology. The LIU BSc IT program additionally provides a theoretical and methodological understanding of information technology and has a research component and industrial placement.

How to Apply
Ugandan Applicants:

Applicants should hold at least:
(a) UACE certificate with at least 2 principal passes (one in a science subject or economics or geography) at the same sitting; AND UCE certificate with at least a credit in mathematics.
(b) Diploma from a recognized institution of higher learning in any field or its equivalence.
(c) A Pass in Mature Age Examination.

International Applicants:
Applicants must have qualifications that are equivalent to two A-level principal passes.

Program Description
The LIU BSc IT curriculum is designed to provide an effective integration of practical skills and industrial experience well backed by theoretical knowledge in key aspects of IT. This rich curriculum includes a mandatory 8-week industrial placement after second year.

This curriculum provides a strong foundation for building sustainable, web-based information systems grounded on programming methodologies, database management systems, and networking skills.

Database Management Systems is covered extensively over two years (third year and new curricula in second year). This provides a good opportunity for students to develop and grow their skills progressively. The three programming courses offered in third year and first year help students gain skills in software development and build special interest in object-oriented programming which is very relevant to modern application development. Other relevant courses such as Computer Networking, Systems Analysis and Design, Web Technologies, etc. are included in the curriculum to help produce a more productive graduate. A number of foundational courses are also included to make our graduates unique, well-rounded critical thinkers.

Additionally, there is a research project that is covered over the final semesters. The Research Methods course taken during the first semester of third year provides the foundation upon which students are expected to complete their proposal writing and corresponding IT project during their last semester. The Research Methods course provides the basics and practice needed for students to specify their design and to implement and produce a complete report which is assessed by a panel of IT department faculty in the second semester of the final year.
