It has just occurred to me that I haven’t written a thing about all the different types of people who are attending the Summit. The folks here are intimidatingly educated. I am feeling very small with my simple Bachelors degree.
Of course, I am not saying that these folks are actually intimidating – or that they make me feel small – just the opposite, in fact. There was an instant unity between all the Summit participants and staff. We are all here for one purpose – LivingStone International University. It is like we are old friends greeting each other after a long absence.
There is one particular individual that you should know about – Dr. Sarah Ntiro from Kampala. Dr. Ntiro (pronounced in-tear-oh) is considered the first woman in East Africa to have received a Bachelors degree. Today Dr. Ntiro shared a bit of her life story with us. It was interesting to hear about her journey through life and the many, many struggles she has faced. Her peace, gentleness, and small stature are the first characteristics that strike you. Then, when you find out about her hidden courage and tenacity suddenly you realize that this is no ordinary Ugandan Mamma. She received an honorary Ph.D in Education from Spellman University in Atlanta. Being from Atlanta, I felt an instant connection.
Dr. Ntiro is just one of the shining examples of those who are participating in the Summit and those who are interested in “building the nations of Africa” (LIU’s motto) through quality Christian education.
